As your garden wakes up from its slumber, here are a few ideas for the season;

Snow drops – lift and divide ‘in the green’.

Plant perennials with plenty of organic matter.

Prune back ‘Bubbleja’s sp.’ hard to ensure healthy growth .

Start preparing soil for annuals.

Protect new tender growth with horticultural fleece to stop the frost causing damage.

Support tall border plants with pea sticks or bamboo canes.

Prune roses.

Divide herbaceous perennials that have outgrown their space.

Sow hardy annuals for summer displays.

Mulch borders with at least 2.5 inches of organic matter.

Carry out lawn maintenance LINK.

Plant out sweet peas.

Clip evergreens and topiary – Derby day is the traditional date for this.

Carry on dividing herbaceous perennials.

Keep on top of weed growth
